Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED; prior college coursework or experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities is preferred. A minimum of one year of experience in the Human Services sector or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required.

Candidates should have a foundational understanding of the principles, practices, and techniques related to the support and care of individuals with intellectual disabilities. Familiarity with person-centered approaches, first aid, and emergency response techniques is essential.

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to supervise individuals in both residential and community-based settings, providing direct care that includes physically demanding tasks such as heavy lifting, navigating stairs, and prolonged standing. Effective oral and written communication skills are necessary, along with proficiency in operating a personal computer and standard office equipment. Building and maintaining positive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders is crucial.

A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are mandatory. Driving records must not reflect six or more demerit points within the past twenty-four months, nor any major violations within the last thirty-six months. Out-of-state driving records must be presented at the time of the interview, showing at least three years of history and dated within thirty days of the interview. Pre-employment drug testing, an FBI criminal background check, and verification of education/degree are required.

This role is classified as Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.


Key Responsibilities:

Under general supervision, the Residential Support Specialist will engage in moderately complex tasks to provide direct care and assistance with daily living activities for individuals with developmental disabilities in a residential setting.


Specific Duties Include:
  • Guiding and assisting residents with daily living tasks such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, shopping, household chores, and financial management.
  • Providing supervision and support to clients during program activities.
  • Ensuring a safe and clean living environment is maintained.
  • Monitoring and enforcing facility rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Transporting clients to various appointments and activities.
  • Effectively managing emergency situations and employing crisis intervention techniques as needed.
  • Assisting in the preparation and maintenance of casework documentation as required for service delivery.

Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
