Job Overview

The Geoscience Applications Specialist plays a crucial role in the development, configuration, maintenance, and technical support of geoscience-related software applications. This position is essential for ensuring exceptional user support and managing a variety of technology tasks, both straightforward and complex. The role reports directly to the Vice President of Information and Technology.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the subject matter expert for the geoscience application suite, which includes applications such as Aries, Harmony, Entersight, Petra, TKS, EasyCopy, PDL, TGS, Enerdeq, and Power BI.

• Provide application support by resolving issues and guiding users through helpdesk software, ensuring thorough documentation of problem causes and solutions.

• Coordinate testing and manage scheduled maintenance, software releases, and major upgrades in accordance with IT change management policies.

• Collaborate with business users to identify and implement solutions that streamline daily operations through the use of existing or new IT resources.

• Collect and document requirements from business users through various methods, including interviews, document analysis, workshops, surveys, and workflow analysis.

• Develop and deliver training materials and sessions for employees and staff augmentation team members.

• Generate reports as needed to assist business users in addressing specific inquiries.

• Plan and execute special IT projects aimed at enhancing business operations as directed by IT management.

• Be available around the clock for critical issues related to application systems.

• Undertake additional IT support tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in geology, engineering, management information systems, or computer science is required.

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in the oil and gas sector is necessary.

• Proven experience in utilizing and managing geoscience-focused applications.

• Strong ability to prioritize work and manage project deliverables, collaborating with various stakeholders including business users, department members, software vendors, and partners.

• Comprehensive understanding of the software development lifecycle and change management processes.

• A self-motivated individual capable of working independently and collaboratively on tasks and projects with minimal supervision.

• Excellent communication skills, able to convey technical and non-technical information effectively across different organizational levels.

• Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality results.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

• A strong customer service orientation and focus.
