A Day in Your Life as a Case Manager:
Develop, write, and oversee Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) including annual goals for students with special needs across two middle schools.
Coordinate IEP meetings and ensure follow-up with all participants.

Conduct academic assessments and prepare Assessment Plans, Reports, Prior Written Notices, and other related IEP documentation in a timely manner.

Collaborate with specialists (Occupational Therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists, and other service providers) and school staff to monitor student progress throughout the year, including annual IEP goals.

Design and implement effective Behavior Support Plans or behavior management strategies for instructional and interpersonal activities.

Identify and guide the implementation of appropriate accommodations and modifications to ensure students' success in the general education setting.

Follow up with service providers to confirm IEP attendance, reports, and track services for compliance.
Hold regular meetings with general education teachers and families of students on your caseload.

Provide ongoing consultation and guidance on innovative methods, strategies, and materials that enhance the educational progress of students with special needs.

Ensure all necessary documents are submitted and available prior to IEP meetings (psychologist's reports, related service provider reports/goals, general education/parent progress reports) and distributed to IEP team members.

Maintain accurate records as mandated by law. Update relevant systems with services, accommodations, IEP dates, and other essential information. Track IEPs and provide parents with copies of all reports.

Collaborate with administrators, teachers, and instructional assistants to develop and monitor the success of students in the general education program.

Communicate and collaborate with families regarding their child's behavior and academic progress, engaging them in the IEP process.

Start your day with a team huddle and conclude after student dismissal.
Participate in weekly one-on-one meetings with your mentor for feedback and support.
Engage actively in weekly professional development aimed at enhancing both school culture and academic performance.
Perform additional duties to support our students and school community.

Special Education Leadership Responsibilities:
Onboard new special education staff, including developing an onboarding plan in collaboration with school leadership; coordinate with all relevant stakeholders to ensure new staff are connected and prepared for their roles; and lead portions of the onboarding process.

Provide professional development to raise awareness of the needs of students with disabilities by delivering training sessions focused on accommodations and co-teaching; collaborate with school leadership on site-specific professional development; host special education department meetings; support behavior interventionists through regular check-ins; co-observe co-teaching practices to provide feedback; and participate in leadership team meetings.

Ensure compliance by reviewing incoming student data; managing IEP information; confirming the accuracy of student rosters; providing caseload information to service providers; running compliance reports; collecting service logs; and leading processes for monitoring audits.

Coordinate testing accommodations for state assessments, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed by the due date.

A Bachelor's degree
A current Education Specialist Instruction teaching credential or equivalent
English Learner authorization
A strong belief in the potential for all students to succeed
Demonstrated experience working with students in underserved communities (preferred)
