The Program Coordinator supports special education personnel and provides consultation, IEP coordination, and assistance at the school site level; offers leadership to principals, educators, and support staff to ensure legally compliant and effective instructional services for students with disabilities; and delivers professional development support to Aspire staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Designs programs, supplies curricular resources and technical assistance, and evaluates the effectiveness of services for students with exceptional needs within assigned schools in the region.
- Ensures the application of best practices in implementing pre-referral behavioral interventions, positive behavioral strategies as outlined in the IEP, and executing behavioral support and intervention plans by collaborating with school psychologists and other specialists.
- Provides leadership in curriculum development, instructional strategies, and modifications/accommodations for students with diverse learning needs.
- Engages in professional development, offering training and support to the Special Education Team to enhance instruction for students facing social communication, behavioral, and learning challenges.
- Takes responsibility for the appropriate identification, educational programming, and services for special education students.
- Utilizes individual and cultural diversity, demonstrating knowledge and understanding of working with English Language Learners (ELL).
- Supports data-driven decision-making and accountability to enhance the instructional program and ensure student progress.
- Ensures compliance with due process requirements for IEP development and provides ongoing monitoring to uphold IDEA standards.
- Evaluates Educational Specialists and Instructional Assistants, offering guidance to principals in supervising special education team members.
- Identifies resources, develops strategies for parental involvement, and encourages participation in training activities for families of children with disabilities.
- Manages complex cases to ensure appropriate special education services, including attending staffing meetings, IEP meetings, and parent conferences.
- Applies conflict resolution techniques with parents or other stakeholders to address disputes related to a student's IEP, demonstrating knowledge of current IDEA regulations and Aspire policies.
- Collaborates with site leaders and lead Educational Specialists to identify, coach, and support Educational Specialists.
- Assists in designing and facilitating organization-wide and region-wide professional development for staff, including onboarding for Special Education teammates.
- Stays informed on special education research and best practices.
- Works closely with the Regional Special Education team and Principals to identify necessary resources (e.g., professional development, instructional materials, and consultants) through monitoring caseload ratios.
- Participates in the design and redesign of the Aspire special education program.
- Assists in the recruitment and screening of special education staff.
- Travels across the region to support schools and attends regional meetings for team collaboration and professional development as needed.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and supports Aspire Public Schools' mission, vision, values, standards, policies, procedures, confidentiality standards, and ethical behavior codes.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Provides support with Non-Public School (NPS) or Residential Treatment Center (RTC) placements.
- Master's Degree in Special Education or a related field preferred.
- Clear California Education Specialist Credential and CLAD certification required OR California Related Service Provider Credential/License (e.g., School Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy).
- CPI certification is desirable.
- California Administrative Services Credential is preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
- Demonstrated successful teaching or related service provision in Special Education.
- A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated leadership experience, including supervisory roles (recommended).
- A minimum of 5 years of related experience in special education leadership.
