Arlington, Virginia, United States Amazon Full time
About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Principal UX Designer to lead our UX design team in Foundational People Data Services at Amazon. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for defining and championing the vision for how our customers onboard, discover, share, and consume the freshest employee data that powers thousands of services across Amazon.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead high-priority design projects that are often ambiguous and complex with multiple persona scenarios.
  • As a hands-on design leader, you will define frameworks and methodologies to scale design, drive adoption across teams, and strategically balance trade-offs between competing priorities.
  • Foster a customer-obsessed design culture by sharing best practices, evangelizing design principles, and influencing product strategy.
  • Define, develop, and socialize a clear vision for design innovation and big thinking while not sacrificing speed of delivery.
  • Provide leadership and design direction, influencing across teams and giving thoughtful, detailed, and actionable design feedback.
  • Promote collaboration and facilitate communication with stakeholders at all levels and across diverse disciplines and geographies.
  • Work cross-functionally to drive intuitive design solutions from early concept through final implementation and iteration.
  • Use data and customer insights to share design solutions confidently with senior leaders.
About the Team

Our team has built Foundational People Data Services, a secure, reliable, and fast way to store and consume worker data. We have helped builders across Amazon invent 7,800+ and growing experiences with our AWS-like, 1P data services which focus on the builder experience.

We obsess over ensuring our data services are as foundational as electricity and water – always available, completely reliable, and convenient to use by builders.

We've launched a secure and scalable people data store and event publishing bus; a people data catalog with federated ownership and compliance; role-based authorization and access controls to protect confidentiality; streamlined privacy reviews, depersonalization, and data subject access/deletion requests (DSARs/DSDRs); Tier-1 real-time data APIs for people data (PAPI); high-volume data transfer to the Andes data lake; and synthetic worker data to streamline testing.

We have seen rapid growth, with Amazon systems consuming 1 trillion employee records annually through billions of API calls to our 1P data services each week.

We now have 5,000+ builder customer teams across AWS, Alexa, Payroll, Builder Tools, MyHR, A to Z, Clarity, GREF, Workplace Health & Safety, Time and Attendance, and more – over 75% of them are outside of People Experience & Technology (PXT).

Our 1P data services offer real-time APIs and updates, powering vital end-user tools like Phone Tool (1,100+ page views per minute and 50M+ per month), Chime (800K+ calls per workday), Slack (350k+ employees and contingent workers using per workday), facilities badge access (95k+ salaried employees currently swipe in/out of their building each work day), LDAP, internal systems access, payroll, and more.

Requirements
  • 10+ years of design experience.
  • Experience integrating UX research into customer experience, team culture, development process, and design principles.
  • Experience in managing UX Design and rapid prototyping efforts.
  • Experience working cross-team and synthesizing feedback and input from marketing and product management.
  • Experience with interactive prototyping tools (Figma, Adobe).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in creating UX for brand new products.
  • Have an available online portfolio.
  • Experience designing experiences for technical end-users (builders).
Compensation

Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
