Position Overview

WSP is seeking a highly skilled Lead Structural Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in driving the success of our Structures Transportation Team, contributing to a variety of infrastructure projects across multiple locations.

Your Responsibilities
  • Provide expert technical support and direction for comprehensive due diligence, assessment, enhancement, and construction of both public and private sector building and infrastructure projects.
  • Engage in the research, design, conceptualization, planning, and construction of load-bearing structures, including buildings, bridges, roadways, and mechanical systems.
  • Prepare detailed reports and documentation to advise on materials, installation, design, and construction specifications.
  • Ensure that all responsibilities are executed with a quality that meets or surpasses industry standards for design, safety, structural integrity, and functionality.
Your Impact

As a Lead Structural Engineer, you will:
  • Conduct professional structural engineering tasks and lead bridge design initiatives within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team.
  • Prepare contract drawings and specifications, along with design calculations for medium and long-span bridge replacement projects.
  • Perform complex structural analyses and load rating evaluations for existing structures requiring repairs or retrofits.
  • Utilize structural analysis software and CADD tools (AutoCAD and/or MicroStation) effectively.
  • Work independently or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, architects, planners, and scientific professionals to deliver project work across multiple concurrent assignments.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior engineers.
  • Engage confidently and professionally with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Stay updated on the latest structural engineering techniques and practices.
  • Exercise ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering, with a focus on structural or bridge transportation projects.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
  • In-depth knowledge of structural engineering principles, practices, processes, and design/build applications.
  • Experience in infrastructure planning, design, and construction management, with active involvement in various rehabilitation and new design projects.
  • Proficiency with MassDOT, MBTA, ConnDOT, MaineDOT, RIDOT, VTrans, and/or NHDOT standards and specifications.
  • Hands-on experience with structural analysis software and CADD (AutoCAD and/or MicroStation).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong technical writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality work products.
  • Proven track record of maintaining workplace safety and compliance with health, safety, and conduct policies.
  • Ability to adapt work schedules to meet project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering.
  • Experience with BIM software.
  • Familiarity with AASHTOWare BrR software.
  • Active participation in professional societies.
