Job Overview:

The Child Welfare Liaison Specialist will collaborate with a comprehensive healthcare team focused on supporting children involved in protective services cases receiving care at a prominent medical facility.

As an integral member of the healthcare team, the Liaison will ensure the timely exchange of critical information between a child's protective services caseworker and their medical team.

This role involves working in partnership with protective services personnel, stakeholders, and healthcare providers to enhance outcomes related to child safety, health, access to care, overall well-being, education, and stability.

The Liaison will engage in advanced consultative services and provide technical assistance, operating with a degree of autonomy and requiring sound judgment.

In-depth knowledge of protective services policies and pediatric healthcare practices is essential for this position.

The Liaison will interact regularly with children, foster families, representatives from various organizations, and the general public.


This position reports to the Director of Child Protective Investigations.

Key Responsibilities:

The Liaison will communicate vital information to assist the team in developing effective preventive, medical, educational, therapeutic, and supportive care plans.

This includes sharing case details that impact health and safety, healthcare delivery, or child welfare to ensure comprehensive care.


  • Facilitate access to crucial and timely information from the healthcare team to Child Protective Investigations and Services, ensuring comprehensive health data supports the child's safety, well-being, and planning.
  • Collaborate closely with Nurse Coordinators to identify issues related to healthcare access, compliance with treatment plans, and transitions for children with special healthcare needs. The Liaison will also support discharge planning for patients.
  • Document relevant information in the electronic medical record, as allowed, and provide necessary details to the protective services caseworker for inclusion in their records.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Child Protective Investigation staff, Child Protective Services personnel, law enforcement, judicial officials, legal resources, medical professionals, and community organizations.
  • Act as a subject matter expert within the medical facility to enhance policies, procedures, and care coordination for children in protective services.
  • Serve as an educator in collaboration with healthcare team members, community stakeholders, child placing agencies, and foster parents.
  • Assist in training residents on protective services processes and child abuse reporting.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team case reviews.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Child Protective Investigations and the medical facility's leadership.
  • Promote and demonstrate respect for cultural diversity among colleagues and all professional interactions.
  • Maintain regular attendance in accordance with agency policies.
Required Qualifications:

Candidates must have experience as a Child Protective Services Specialist III or higher with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services for a minimum of six months.
