This position is a temporary role within the Child Support Division at a state agency.

To qualify as a Child Support Specialist, candidates must possess either a Bachelor's Degree, four years of experience in collections, four years of legal experience, or a combination of these qualifications.

The Child Support Specialist II role represents the journey-level position in this classification. Responsibilities include independently managing a caseload, conducting client interviews, assessing various information sources, and initiating legal actions. This role is distinct from the Senior Child Support Specialist, who oversees complex cases requiring advanced skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Utilize an automated system to manage child support cases, including data entry, applying relevant regulations, monitoring payments, and preparing necessary documentation.
  2. Conduct interviews with custodial and non-custodial parents, witnesses, and other relevant parties to gather information for establishing paternity and assessing financial circumstances.
  3. Perform skip tracing activities to locate absent parents and their assets, verifying information through various channels.
  4. Analyze case data to determine the necessity for legal actions, preparing relevant documents and assisting legal staff as needed.
  5. Evaluate financial data of non-custodial parents to ascertain support capabilities, ensuring compliance with court orders and recommending case closures when appropriate.
