Job Summary

The Stony Brook Medicine team is seeking a highly skilled Inventory Management Specialist to oversee the planning and coordination of inventory and purchasing for Perioperative Services. This role requires a strong understanding of inventory management systems and procedures, as well as excellent communication and analytical skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research and recommend vendors for surgical materials and equipment
  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure adequate supplies are available
  • Manage the distribution of supplies and materials within the organization
  • Prepare and manage supply costs for departmental budgets
  • Assist in departmental capital planning and budgeting
  • Prepare and manage consignment contracts
  • Prepare purchase requisitions for the Perioperative Services department
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • At least 3 years of experience in materials management
  • At least 1 year of experience in managing surgical materials
  • Working knowledge of handling and ordering surgical implants
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in conjunction with accounts payable and accounts receivable under NYS procurement law
  • Experience ordering with vendor agreements, service contracts, and blanket POs
  • Experience resolving backorder issues
  • Working knowledge of surgical analytical programs such as Lawson, EDI/GHX, and Crystal reports
  • 1 or more year's experience in handling sensitive materials such as sterile implants, human tissue, and sub-zero sterile goods
  • Personnel management experience
