Advanced Practice Nurse in Cardiovascular Surgery

Position Overview:
Full-Time Role
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- Effective communication with courtesy when interacting with patients and customers, whether in person, electronically, or via telephone.

- Patient health assessment through interviews, physical examinations, and identification of medical and surgical conditions.
- Collection and analysis of patient medical and surgical histories.
- Development and implementation of patient management plans to ensure continuity of care.
- Ordering and administering appropriate diagnostic tests, including X-rays and laboratory studies, to identify abnormalities.
- Review and interpretation of patient test results.
- Provision of pre- and post-operative care along with patient education.
- Execution of therapeutic procedures such as injections, suturing, and wound care in both clinic and hospital settings.
- Conducting hospital rounds for surgical consultations and managing pre- and post-operative patients.
- Assisting supervising physicians with discharge services, including planning and summaries.
- Serving as surgical first-assist during procedures.
- Ability to lift, hold, and position patients, and maintain stamina during extended periods in the operating room.
- Performing surgical skin closures and related operative care.
- Facilitating efficient workflows in clinic and operating room environments.
- Providing on-call hospital services in support of supervising physicians.
- Assisting in emergency care services related to surgical specialties.
- Instructing and counseling patients and their families as necessary.
- Documenting patient care services accurately in records.
- Contributing to the effectiveness of the supervising physician by identifying patient care issues and providing educational opportunities for staff.
- Serving as a preceptor for advanced practice nurse practitioner students.
- Developing protocols to enhance workflows and increase efficiencies.
- Maintaining a safe and clean working environment in compliance with policies and regulations.
- Supporting a culture of safety and quality to protect patients and employees.
- Upholding patient rights by adhering to privacy guidelines and ethical standards.
- Complying with legal and professional requirements through ongoing education.
- Commitment to professional growth, including completing mandatory educational requirements and maintaining certifications.
- Comprehensive knowledge of techniques for diagnosing and treating pre- and post-operative patients.
- Understanding of personal service quality norms and patient satisfaction evaluation.
- Active listening and critical thinking skills to make informed decisions.
Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner Studies.
- Minimum of 2 years in cardiology, cardiovascular, or related surgical specialty.
Licensure and Certification:
- State of Florida ARNP Licensure.
- Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Continuing education required to maintain licensure.
