License and Certification Qualifications:
Valid Georgia Class C Driver’s License preferred.

Education Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience Qualifications:
One year experience in industrial or commercial custodial work required.

Skills Qualifications:

Proficient in supervising and training staff during assigned shifts; extensive knowledge of custodial care techniques and the ability to effectively demonstrate, instruct, and assess the custodial care skills in line with the Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) Custodial Care Program; adept at interacting with administrators, educators, students, and visitors; capable of comprehending and executing verbal and written instructions in English at a minimum 6th grade level, including safety protocols and custodial product usage; and skilled in organizing and leading team efforts among staff.



Primary Responsibilities:

Assist the Head Custodian in overseeing and coordinating the activities of the custodial team to adhere to the GCPS Custodial Care Program, ensuring the school and surrounding facilities are maintained in a safe, clean, sanitary, and orderly manner.

Support the supervision of the custodial staff in executing custodial tasks in accordance with the GCPS Custodial Care Program to uphold a safe and clean educational environment.

a.

Participate in scheduled training sessions and professional development meetings provided by the Department of Environmental, Print and Supply Services.

b.

Conduct and document training for custodial staff in all aspects of the GCPS Custodial Care Program.

c.

Evaluate completed work for compliance with standards and provide additional training as necessary.

d.

Foster positive and collaborative working relationships with team members and other staff.

e.

Assist in resolving interpersonal conflicts among custodial staff or refer to the Head Custodian as appropriate.

Contribute to the development and execution of detailed work schedules and assignments for custodial staff, ensuring consistent cleaning and sanitization of school areas.

a. Monitor daily tasks of custodial staff to confirm completion as scheduled.
b. Adjust work schedules as necessary to ensure critical tasks are accomplished.
c. Supervise substitute custodians during the absence of regular staff.

3.

Ensure that approved cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment are utilized by custodial staff in accordance with GCPS Policies and Procedures.

a.

Assist in timely procurement of necessary items to maintain adequate inventory for custodial tasks.

b.

Inspect custodial tools and equipment to ensure they are kept in a clean and safe condition.

c.

Submit service requests for repairs of custodial equipment as needed.


4.

Facilitate the opening and securing of facilities as directed by administrative staff in the absence of the Head Custodian.

a. Assist in assigning tasks to custodial staff and adjust as necessary due to scheduling changes.

5.

Manage custodial expenditures for supplies and labor within budgetary constraints in the absence of the Head Custodian.

a. Collaborate with school staff to plan and execute purchases of necessary materials and schedule custodians for additional work as needed.

6.

Assist the Head Custodian with the overall maintenance and care of the school facilities and grounds.

a.

Submit service requests for facility maintenance and pest management as required.

b.

Report any vandalism or damage to school property to the appropriate administrative staff.

c.

Assist in the setup and relocation of furniture and equipment to support educational activities.

d.

Support the Head Custodian in managing surplus and replacement of school assets.

e.

Assist in the setup and cleanup of after-school events and extracurricular activities.


7.

Propose alternative cleaning methods, products, or tools for the GCPS Custodial Care Program and assist in evaluations for efficiency and effectiveness.

a.

Communicate suggestions for continuous improvement of the custodial program to the Head Custodian and relevant staff.

Provide feedback on the impact of new cleaning practices and materials.


8. Perform additional duties as assigned.
a. Follow directives from the Head Custodian or other administrative personnel.

Physical Demands:

The role requires frequent communication, standing, walking, climbing stairs, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds. The employee may need to climb ladders, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment. The employee may encounter varying temperature and humidity conditions while working with equipment. Potential hazards include working with electrical equipment and chemicals.
