Position: Financial Controller

Company: Homes for America, Inc.

Homes for America, Inc. (HFA) is a distinguished nonprofit organization dedicated to the development and management of affordable housing across the mid-Atlantic region. We are currently in search of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or an individual with equivalent qualifications to fulfill the role of Financial Controller.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit entity, HFA is committed to creating and preserving affordable housing that is complemented by essential services for low and moderate-income families, seniors, and individuals with special needs. Our organization has successfully developed over 80 communities, providing approximately 6,500 apartments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct financial reviews and analyses of HFA's property portfolio.
  • Oversee the coordination of annual audits for individual properties and the consolidated audit for HFA.
  • Manage the monthly financial closing process for HFA.
  • Coordinate cost certifications and financial benchmarks for investor reporting.

We are looking for a candidate who thrives in a complex financial and organizational environment, possesses the ability to articulate intricate matters, and is comfortable presenting to the Board of Directors and senior management. The ideal candidate should also be prepared to serve in the capacity of acting CFO when necessary.

This position will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and will require the ability to work autonomously in a dynamic professional setting while effectively managing multiple priorities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field is preferred.
  • Certification as a Public Accountant is highly desirable.
  • Experience in public accounting is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and MS Word at an advanced level is essential.
  • Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software is required.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently to meet deadlines.
  • A strong work ethic and a commitment to professional growth within the housing sector.
  • Alignment with HFA's mission and public service objectives.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience and will include a comprehensive benefits package, which encompasses vacation and sick leave, company-paid health insurance, disability and life insurance, and a 401(k) plan with employer matching.

HFA offers a collaborative work environment in a busy office setting. A flexible hybrid work schedule is available.
