Position Overview

This role is categorized as Temporary Part-time, without benefits. Event Parking Coordinators operate on an as-needed basis, with schedules aligned to the City's event calendar.

Job Summary

Under direct supervision and in accordance with established policies and procedures, this position provides exceptional customer service during event parking operations. Responsibilities include collecting fees from patrons upon entry and managing traffic flow to available parking areas. Preparation of the facility prior to events and restoration post-event is also required. In certain situations, traffic management outside the facility and on public streets may be necessary. As a representative of the City, assisting customers with payment stations during peak times is essential. Protection of residential, monthly, and hotel parking spaces is a priority. The role demands a flexible schedule, as events may occur during daytime, nighttime, and weekends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Staff Coordination: Oversee the placement of team members, distribute necessary materials and funds, assist in facility setup and takedown, and ensure the security of all funds post-event. Monitor the facility's capacity and prepare for closing if necessary. May supervise contract parking staff during events. Deliver high-quality customer service throughout the event.

  • Fee Collection: Ensure the secure handling of funds and event materials before the event starts. Verify initial funds and tickets, and complete required documentation. Collect fees from customers at designated entry points.

  • Traffic Direction: Arrive at the assigned area equipped with safety gear to manage vehicle parking after payment. Direct vehicles to available spaces efficiently and safely, using sound judgment to prevent accidents. Assist pedestrian traffic as needed and manage street traffic according to police guidelines.

  • Event Setup and Breakdown: Arrive at the designated facility to assist in preparing for event parking. This includes the placement of signage, barriers, and gates. Assist in reverting the facility back to standard operations after the event concludes.

  • Customer Assistance: Support patrons with payment processes and manage traffic flow to alleviate congestion. Safeguard designated parking areas and close the facility as required to protect these spaces. Report any issues to the supervising authority.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • This is an entry-level position with training provided.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in customer service.
  • Background in cash handling or cashier roles.
  • Familiarity with the parking industry.
  • Experience with computerized revenue control systems.

Driver's License Requirements

  • Valid South Carolina Class D Driver's License.

Working Conditions

Primary Work Environment: Outdoor settings (Parking facilities).

Protective Equipment: Safety vests and directional wands.

Health and Safety Considerations:

Frequent exposure to various environmental conditions. Majority of work performed outdoors with potential risks. Regular exposure to extreme temperatures and humidity. Occasional exposure to noise and physical hazards.

Physical Requirements:

Requires continuous standing, handling, vision, hearing, and communication. Frequent walking, carrying, reaching, and climbing. Occasional lifting and bending. Medium strength demands include lifting up to 20 pounds occasionally.

Mental Demands:

Regularly requires managing time pressures and irregular schedules. Collaboration with others is essential, along with the ability to perform tasks in a noisy environment.
