Role Overview: The HVAC Superintendent plays a critical role within the Corrections Construction Unit, overseeing the effective and efficient execution of HVAC projects across various correctional facilities. This position is essential in ensuring that all operations align with the strategic objectives of the department.

Key Responsibilities:

The Superintendent is responsible for managing daily operations on construction sites, which includes:

  1. Exercising sound judgment and ethical decision-making to resolve conflicts and ensure project delivery aligns with established plans, specifications, and budgets.
  2. Coordinating the activities of skilled and unskilled labor, including managing inmate workers and making decisions regarding their employment status.
  3. Ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations relevant to construction and HVAC operations.
  4. Maintaining comprehensive records related to site activities, including daily reports and timekeeping.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a High School diploma or equivalent, along with a valid State Issued Driver's License. Candidates should have significant experience in HVAC systems within commercial settings and a background in at least two other construction trades.

Additionally, candidates should demonstrate:

  • Experience in supervising and instructing a diverse workforce.
  • Proficiency in interpreting construction documents and adhering to building codes.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and environmental regulations.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Additional Considerations:

Preferred qualifications include current HVAC licensure, EPA refrigerant certification, and experience operating construction equipment. A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is also advantageous.
