Corrections Construction Superintendent Position

This position is part of the Virginia Department of Corrections' Corrections Construction Unit, with the main administrative office based in Powhatan, Virginia.
The Corrections Construction Superintendent plays a crucial role in the productive, effective, and cost-efficient delivery of programs and services that support and enhance field operations to achieve the goals, mission, and vision of the Department.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a working Construction Superintendent on Virginia Department of Corrections commercial construction build sites, ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with building plans, specifications, schedule, and budget.
Key responsibilities include exercising sound ethical judgment, identifying, coordinating, and using resources appropriately, anticipating and proactively resolving conflicts, managing the daily activities of a variety of trade skilled and unskilled inmate laborer workforce, and being authorized to terminate, layoff, or remove assigned inmate workers for cause or during times of work slowdown.
Minimum qualifications include a High School diploma or equivalent, a valid Driver's License, knowledge in the multiple construction trades means, methods, and materials used in the construction and renovations of commercial/institutional building structures, knowledge of the regulations of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (VUSBC) as it applies to commercial construction, knowledge of Construction safety OSHA standards, environmental, and conservation requirements, and skilled in managing an on-site construction team and project schedules.
Additional considerations include demonstrated experience working jobsite as a Commercial Construction Tradesman in a Supervisory role, a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with minimum Class "B" endorsement, current DPOR construction trades licensure, and experience in the operations of construction earthmoving equipment.
