Job Responsibilities

This role is part of the Department of Corrections' Construction Management Team, focusing on the effective and efficient execution of construction projects that align with the department's objectives and mission.

The Senior Construction Project Supervisor will oversee construction estimations and project management tasks within the Corrections Construction Unit. Responsibilities include gathering and analyzing data to interpret detailed plans, specifications, and contract documents, while preparing comprehensive materials and labor estimates across various construction disciplines. The supervisor will also contribute to the development of project scopes and material procurement packages, as well as conduct site visits to assess ongoing work.

Essential Qualifications

A High School diploma or equivalent is required, along with a valid Driver's License. Candidates should have experience in commercial construction project estimation and demonstrate proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications across all CSI divisions. Familiarity with drafting standards and symbols is essential, as well as skills in preparing specification requisitions. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is necessary, and the ability to work independently while meeting deadlines is crucial. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required, along with the ability to travel to job sites for information gathering.

Preferred Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related fields, or a combination of education and relevant experience is preferred. Certifications such as Virginia Construction Contracting Officer (VCCO), Certified Professional Estimator (CPE), and Certified Construction Manager (CCM) are advantageous.

In-depth knowledge of commercial construction methodologies, materials, environmental principles, and project management practices across various construction specialties is essential. Familiarity with the Construction Specification Institute (CSI) Master Format Divisions and the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code as it pertains to commercial construction is also required. Skills in preparing construction materials specifications and labor cost documents, as well as the ability to create single-line commercial construction drawings using hand or computer-assisted drafting (CAD), are beneficial.
