Underwriting Director - Large Asset Management

The Underwriting Director plays a crucial role in supporting AXA XL's objectives within the North Central Region, ensuring that underwriting goals are met while enhancing the reputation of the AXA XL brand. This position necessitates extensive collaboration with a diverse team of Underwriters, Clients, Brokers, and internal stakeholders. As the leader of the North Central Underwriting Team, the focus will be on managing a substantial renewal portfolio and identifying new business opportunities through innovative solutions tailored to client needs.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities will include:
  • Cultivating and leading a team of underwriters to secure new business and maintain existing client relationships.
  • Overseeing referrals and monitoring the health of the portfolio by tracking losses, retention rates, and pipeline management.
  • Assessing appropriate risk premiums by analyzing the inherent costs associated with the Property Sector, reinsurance arrangements, and overall administrative expenses to ensure profitability.
  • Initiating cross-selling opportunities.
  • Ensuring the timely execution of New and Renewal accounts in accordance with quality standards (including policy and invoice issuance).
  • Monitoring premium collections and taking necessary actions.
  • Advising and assisting clients on insurance and risk management issues to guarantee client satisfaction while responding to inquiries promptly.
  • Ensuring the timely implementation of policy endorsements and facilitating proper handover for execution.
  • Responsible for the development of skills, knowledge, and competencies of junior colleagues.
  • Estimated travel requirements will be within the region.
You will report directly to the Zonal Property Manager.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:
  • Extensive experience in Underwriting or equivalent Broker experience with a comprehensive understanding of underwriting practices, rating methodologies, and business processes.
  • Previous experience in underwriting management is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • A solid grasp of both global and domestic property underwriting, with large account experience and HPR background being beneficial.
  • Underwriting or loss control experience in property, marine, or construction sectors.
  • Familiarity with major brokerage firms within the North Central region.
  • A Bachelor's Degree is preferred; professional designations such as CPCU or ARM are a plus.
  • Strong analytical capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in marketing, presentation, and negotiation techniques.
  • Ability to build and sustain relationships with clients, producers, and trading partners.
  • Strong personal organization and time management skills.
  • Exceptional decision-making abilities.
