The Senior Underwriting Manager is pivotal in guiding AXA XL's North Central Region towards achieving its underwriting goals while enhancing the reputation of the AXA XL brand. As the leader of the North Central Underwriting Team, the focus will be on managing a substantial renewal portfolio and identifying new business prospects by delivering innovative solutions tailored to client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Your core responsibilities will encompass:
- Cultivating and overseeing a team of underwriters to secure new business and maintain existing client relationships.
- Monitoring the portfolio's health by assessing losses, retention rates, and pipeline management.
- Determining appropriate risk premiums by analyzing the inherent risks in the Property Sector, reinsurance arrangements, and administrative costs to ensure profitability.
- Identifying opportunities for cross-selling initiatives.
- Ensuring the timely execution of New and Renewal accounts in accordance with quality standards, including policy and invoice issuance.
- Managing premium collection processes and taking necessary actions.
- Providing expert advice and support to clients on insurance and risk management to guarantee client satisfaction and timely responses to inquiries.
- Overseeing the implementation of Policy endorsements and ensuring effective handover for execution.
- Responsible for mentoring and developing the skills and knowledge of junior colleagues.
- Estimated travel requirements will primarily be within the Region.
Required Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Extensive experience in Underwriting or equivalent Broker experience with a comprehensive understanding of underwriting processes, rating methodologies, and business operations.
- Previous experience in underwriting management is advantageous but not mandatory.
- A solid grasp of both global and domestic property underwriting, with large account experience and High-Value Property (HPR) background being beneficial.
- Experience in underwriting or loss control within property, marine, or construction sectors.
- Familiarity with industry leaders such as Aon, Marsh, Willis, Lockton, and AJ Gallagher within the North Central region.
- A Bachelor's Degree is preferred; professional designations such as CPCU or ARM are a plus.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Exceptional marketing, presentation, and negotiation abilities.
- Capacity to build and sustain relationships with clients, producers, and trading partners.
- Strong personal direction and effective time management skills.
- Excellent decision-making capabilities.
