Key Responsibilities:

As a vital member of our team, you will engage in a collaborative environment with both staff and volunteers to achieve our mission of improving animal welfare.

Core Duties:

Deliver Exceptional Veterinary Care (60%):
  • Provide compassionate and efficient veterinary services to a diverse range of animals, adhering to shelter medicine standards.
  • Conduct thorough diagnoses and treatments, ensuring timely interventions for patients in need.
  • Maintain open communication with veterinary colleagues across various programs to coordinate care effectively.
  • Oversee medical examinations for incoming animals and ensure ongoing treatment as necessary.
  • Generate Certificates of Veterinary Inspections for animals requiring interstate transport.
  • Participate in daily assessments of animal health and welfare, implementing treatment plans promptly.
  • Utilize quarantine and isolation protocols to safeguard herd health and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Guide decisions regarding euthanasia with careful consideration of each animal's needs.
  • Stay informed on all protocols set by regulatory bodies and adhere to established SOPs.
  • Provide input on medical protocols and standards of care.
  • Engage in continuing education to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
  • Represent the organization in various capacities, providing medical insights to other departments and the public.
  • Support various ASPCA initiatives as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Educate and Mentor on Quality Care (40%):
  • Collaborate with management to foster a culture of learning and respect within the organization.
  • Promote continuous improvement in animal care practices.
  • Train and mentor staff on shelter medicine principles and protocols.
  • Ensure timely follow-up care for adopted and fostered animals.
  • Communicate medical conditions and updates to relevant stakeholders.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and training sessions.
  • Guide and train interns and externs in veterinary practices.

Compensation and Benefits:

Qualifications:
