The work schedule consists of 3 days per week (8-hour shifts, including one weekend day).

Primary Duties:

Your responsibilities will encompass, but are not limited to:

Deliver Exceptional Patient and Population Care (60%):
  • Administer high-quality, compassionate, and cost-effective veterinary services to a diverse range of canines and felines, adhering to shelter medicine principles.
  • Conduct thorough diagnoses and treatments, ensuring timely recognition and planning for conditions requiring care through the ASPCA Animal Hospital.
  • Maintain consistent communication with veterinary colleagues across various ASPCA programs to ensure seamless care for hospitalized patients.
  • Ensure that both in-house and foster animals receive medical evaluations upon admission and ongoing care as necessary.
  • Generate Certificates of Veterinary Inspections (CVI) for animals being transported across state lines.
  • Lead daily Medical-Behavior-Sheltering rounds, ensuring timely assessments and implementation of treatment recommendations.
  • Utilize quarantine and isolation spaces effectively to manage herd health.
  • Guide decisions regarding euthanasia, considering the physical, medical, social, and behavioral needs of the animals.
  • Adhere to all Occupational Safety and Health Administration protocols.
  • Provide input on medical protocols and standards of care.
  • Obtain required continuing education as mandated by the ASPCA and state licensing board.
  • Represent the ASPCA in public and media communications regarding medical information.
  • Participate in deployments with other ASPCA teams as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Mentor and Educate on Quality Patient Care (40%):
  • Collaborate with the Manager and Veterinarians to foster a culture of learning within the Adoption Center.
  • Model a commitment to continuous improvement in all aspects of animal care.
  • Educate and mentor nursing and animal care staff on shelter medicine principles.
  • Ensure timely follow-up and support for adoptions and foster care.
  • Inform relevant stakeholders about the medical conditions of shelter animals.
  • Attend interdepartmental meetings and training sessions.
  • Mentor and train externs and interns.

Compensation and Benefits:

The starting salary for this position will depend on various factors, including education, training, experience, and market demands. The target hiring range is $88,800 - $93,600 for a 3-day/24 hour weekly schedule. This role also includes a signing bonus.
