Overview:


The ASPCA Animal Hospital (AAH) is dedicated to delivering essential medical care and alleviating suffering for animals affected by cruelty and neglect. We collaborate with both internal partners, such as our adoption center and community advocate team, and external organizations to provide support.

We also offer subsidized veterinary services for pet owners facing financial hardships, ensuring that every animal receives the care they need.

Our Licensed Veterinary Technicians are devoted, composed professionals who thrive in a dynamic environment, committed to enhancing the lives of animals.

As part of our veterinary team, our nursing staff works collaboratively to ensure high-quality, practical veterinary services, delivering skilled, efficient, and compassionate care to both outpatients and hospitalized animals.

Our focus is on minimizing fear, anxiety, and stress for our patients. Team members in this role are expected to provide exceptional service and communication to clients, the public, colleagues, and patients, in alignment with our practice's standards and Fear Free principles.



Key Responsibilities:

Core Duties Include:
Nursing Care and Client Services (40%)

  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of veterinary medical practices.
  • Deliver compassionate and high-quality patient care consistently, adhering to Fear Free Guidelines.
  • Exhibit proficiency in essential nursing skills, including venipuncture, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, and critical care.
  • Apply critical thinking and multitasking abilities effectively.
  • Prioritize tasks based on the needs of the hospital and patients.
  • Ensure safe animal handling and restraint during medical procedures.
  • Treat animals and clients with utmost respect and care.
  • Clearly communicate documented information regarding an animal's condition to clients.
  • Report any patient concerns or changes to the Veterinarian.
  • Administer medications and feed patients as per instructions.
  • Lift animals weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Maintain a safe and compassionate environment for all.
Professionalism, Communication, and Performance (40%)

  • Represent the ASPCA with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Provide management with insights regarding training needs and departmental requirements.
  • Collaborate effectively with other department managers and staff.
  • Uphold organizational policies and protocols.
  • Stay open to changes and actively participate in learning new protocols.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of daily procedures and protocols.
  • Ensure high standards of care and performance.
  • Work independently and as part of a cohesive team.
  • Maintain composure under challenging conditions.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions regularly.
  • Alert supervisors to any unsafe conditions or hazards.
Housekeeping and Maintenance (20%)

  • Clean and disinfect facilities and equipment using appropriate safety measures.
  • Adhere to all cleaning protocols and safety regulations.
  • Maintain inventory and ensure supplies are adequately stocked.
  • Keep all areas of the hospital clean and organized throughout the day.
Additional Information

  • We seek candidates who demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with integrity and accountability. This is a full-time position, and weekend work may be required.
  • Certification in Fear Free Shelter practices is required within 60 days of hire.

Compensation and Benefits:


The starting salary for this position will be determined based on various factors, including education, experience, and market conditions. The target hiring range is set for new hires, with potential for salary increases based on performance.

Qualifications:

Candidates must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods. Proficiency in basic computer skills is required. Completion of the Fear Free 8 module course or willingness to complete it within 60 days of hire is necessary. A strong sense of integrity, knowledge of veterinary protocols, and excellent customer service skills are essential.
