MSK is seeking passionate Animal Care Technician Associates who are eager to work diligently and acquire new skills to either initiate or enhance their careers in animal husbandry. Our team has successfully onboarded individuals from a variety of backgrounds, including home health aides, construction workers, hospitality professionals, and childcare providers, and we are excited to connect with others interested in pursuing a career in Animal Care to support scientific advancements in cancer treatment.

About the Research Animal Resource Center (RARC)

The RARC is dedicated to providing the highest standard of humane care and utilization of animals in research and education at MSK. Our mission is to ensure exceptional care for the animals entrusted to us, thereby improving the quality of research conducted with animal models.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare unclean caging and equipment for sanitization.
  • Assemble caging for utilization by fellow Animal Care Technicians.
  • Operate and maintain automated cage washing equipment and sterilizers.
  • Prepare acidified water bottles using automated filling and proportioning systems.
  • Receive, transport, process, store, and label animal feed and bedding.
  • Disassemble, clean, and reassemble ventilated Thoren units.
  • Provide husbandry and care for various animal species.
  • Conduct health assessments and perform environmental monitoring and sanitation.

Qualifications

  • Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 55 lbs, with frequent standing, grasping, reaching, and some crouching or kneeling.
  • Willingness to learn or existing knowledge of animal health and disease, cleaning and sterilization procedures for caging, and familiarity with equipment used in laboratory animal care.
