The Custom Cabinet Fabrication Specialist plays a crucial role in the design and creation of bespoke cabinetry. Key tasks include cutting and shaping wood, preparing surfaces, and ensuring the final product meets high standards of quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operates an array of woodworking machinery and utilizes hand tools to construct and repair wooden cabinets and premium furniture.
  • Interprets blueprints or schematics to determine the sequence of operations for cutting or shaping materials.
  • Marks dimensions and outlines on paper or lumber according to design specifications.
  • Selects materials based on color, grain, and texture compatibility.
  • Sets up and uses woodworking machines, including power saws, jointers, mortisers, tenoners, molders, and shapers, to produce parts from wood stock.
  • Trims components to ensure precise fitting using hand tools such as planes, chisels, or wood files.
  • Drills holes for screws or dowels manually or with a boring machine.
  • Adheres, fits, and clamps parts together to form complete units using clamps or clamping devices.
  • Secures joints with nails or other fasteners at specified locations to enhance durability.
  • Prepares surfaces and joints for finishing by sanding and scraping.
  • May also restore high-quality furniture items.
  • Applies protective or decorative finishes, such as stains, varnishes, or paints, to assembled pieces.
  • Installs hardware, including hinges, catches, and drawer pulls.
  • Handles repairs for furniture, equipment, and fixtures designated for Cabinetmaker maintenance.
  • Proficient in working with Solid Surface materials and their fabrication.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a manufacturing or workshop environment.
  • Technical proficiency in operating shop equipment, including table saws, routers, and skill saws.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Reliable, with a positive attitude and a strong commitment to excellence.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Basic mathematical and spatial skills.
  • Consistent attendance and a strong work ethic.
  • A degree in a related field from a college or trade school is preferred.
