Job Summary

The Law Enforcement Officer at Emerson College is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, and staff. This role involves conducting investigations, responding to emergency calls, and providing support to the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough investigations into reported incidents and crimes
  • Respond to emergency calls and provide assistance as needed
  • Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies to share information and best practices
  • Provide support to students, faculty, and staff in crisis situations
  • Develop and implement strategies to prevent crime and promote public safety
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date on the latest techniques and technologies
  • Work closely with the college community to build trust and foster a positive relationship

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of law enforcement experience, preferably in a campus setting
  • Must have graduated from a full-time police recruit training academy accredited by the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Council or the Massachusetts State Police (MSP) Academy for campus police officers
  • Ability to obtain a valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator's license and the ability to be insured by the College's automobile liability insurer
  • Successful completion of an annual fitness-for-duty assessment, including a background investigation, a psychological evaluation, and a medical release

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a campus law enforcement setting
  • Knowledge of crisis management and response techniques
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and move equipment and supplies as needed
