Campus Law Enforcement Officer

The Simmons University Police Department is dedicated to fostering a secure environment for the entire university community. Our Police Officers operate collaboratively to deliver essential Public Safety and Law Enforcement services with the utmost respect and professionalism.
Officers are entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding the lives and property of the Simmons University community. They will uphold university regulations and enforce the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Ensure the safety of individuals and property. Working cohesively with the community, Officers actively identify and address safety and security concerns in an efficient manner.
2. Respond promptly to emergency situations, including reports of criminal activity, medical emergencies, and other urgent incidents. Provide necessary assistance and conduct thorough investigations as required.
3. Uphold the laws of Massachusetts and university regulations. Officers may need to arrest offenders and participate in legal proceedings, as well as refer student violations for internal review.
4. Deter criminal behavior through visible patrols and community engagement. Officers will participate in safety briefings and events to educate the community on crime prevention strategies.
5. Utilize communication equipment effectively, manage reports of criminal activity, and monitor security systems.
6. Conduct safety inspections of campus facilities and assist with parking enforcement.
7. Additional duties may be assigned by the Chief of Police or their designee to meet departmental needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of a Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) certified basic police Recruit Officer Course or equivalent.
- Eligibility for appointment as a Special State Police Officer.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum age of 21 years.
- Ability to obtain a Massachusetts Driver's License and Class A License to Carry.
- Successful completion of a comprehensive background check, psychological evaluation, drug screening, and medical examination.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior law enforcement experience, particularly in a university setting.
- Bachelor's degree is preferred.
- Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Familiarity with ARMS system.
- Military veterans are encouraged to apply.
The Simmons University Police Department operates around the clock, requiring Officers to work on a rotating schedule. This role may involve mandatory overtime and requires availability during emergencies.
