Position Overview

Role: This position is part of a bargaining unit.

Work Requirements: The role necessitates a minimum of five days of onsite work within a two-week pay period.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct independent reviews of assigned cases to ensure all necessary documentation is complete and available for appeal disposition.
  • Perform comprehensive research on relevant statutes, regulations, and legal precedents, providing a detailed analysis of each case.
  • Offer legal advice to the Board, applying existing precedents and statutory rules to develop reasoned analyses of legal issues.
  • Support and potentially attend oral arguments in unique cases, preparing written recommendations and drafting decisions in accordance with Board directives.
  • Mentor junior attorneys, guiding them in case development and ensuring high-quality legal outputs.
  • Coordinate project assignments, monitor case progress, and resolve issues that may hinder timely case completion.
  • Act as a liaison with the Clerk's Office, providing necessary legal insights to facilitate case processing.
  • Maintain meticulous records of case assignments and deadlines to ensure efficient processing.
  • Assess the complexity of cases referred to the Office of General Counsel and allocate cases to staff attorneys accordingly.
  • Provide training and guidance to newly assigned attorneys on legal writing and Board policies.
  • Engage in special projects, including the development of policy directives and training materials.
Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Must be at least 16 years old and a U.S. Citizen.
  • Possession of a professional law degree (LL.B. or J.D.) and membership in good standing with a state bar.
  • For the GS-14 level, a minimum of three years of progressively responsible legal experience post-law school is required, including specialized experience in labor law.

Specialized Experience: Candidates should have a working knowledge of labor-related legislation and experience in legal analysis and opinion drafting.
