Position Overview:

The State of Nebraska is dedicated to providing essential services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. We are currently seeking a qualified individual for the role of Staff Interpreter.

Omaha, NE or Lincoln, NE

Compensation:
$23.779 per hour

Role Summary:

As a Staff Interpreter, you will be responsible for facilitating communication access services and providing sign language interpretation for agency staff and community members. This role requires a professional certification in interpreting and a commitment to making a positive impact.

Under limited supervision, you will collaborate with management to ensure effective communication during various interactions, including meetings and phone calls.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver licensed sign language interpreting services for internal and external communications.
  • Provide guidance to the community regarding the role of licensed interpreters.
  • Engage in special projects and collaborate with team members as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional ethics in all assignments.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

Completion of a two-year interpreter training program or equivalent, along with QAST or RID certification and relevant interpreting experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

RID National Certification and a minimum of five years of interpreting experience in diverse professional environments. Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English is essential.


Skills and Abilities:

Strong understanding of Deaf culture and the ability to interpret effectively in various settings, including state agencies and community events. Excellent interpersonal skills and the capacity to work with a wide range of clients are necessary.
