Healthcare Support Specialist

Position: Medical Assistant
The Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in providing both clinical and administrative assistance to healthcare professionals, ensuring the effective delivery of high-quality medical services. This position is essential in achieving optimal patient outcomes through dedicated patient care activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage incoming phone calls, schedule patient appointments, check patients in, and gather necessary information to maintain and update patient records, ensuring all documentation is completed accurately.
- Collect and document patient medical histories, vital signs, test results, and other pertinent information while upholding strict confidentiality standards.
- Prepare examination rooms and medical equipment, ensuring cleanliness and readiness for patient use.
- Oversee the inventory of medical supplies and ensure examination rooms are stocked appropriately.
- Assist in the preparation, ordering, and administration of medications under the supervision of healthcare providers.
- Set up treatment areas for clinical examinations and support practitioners during medical procedures and patient care activities.
- Facilitate the safe transfer of patients before and after procedures.
- Provide compassionate support and assistance to patients and their families.
- Adhere to all healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA compliance.
- Complete mandatory training and development activities as assigned.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Language Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret safety guidelines, operational instructions, and procedural manuals.
- Capable of writing routine reports and correspondence.
- Effective verbal communication skills for interactions with groups and individuals.
Mathematical Skills:
- Proficient in basic arithmetic operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Able to compute rates, ratios, and percentages, and interpret graphical data.
Reasoning Skills:
- Ability to solve practical problems and manage various concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
- Capable of interpreting diverse instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic formats.
Other Skills:
- Ability to correlate clinical data with patient care effectively.
- Strong communication skills to interact with patients, families, and colleagues, adapting style as necessary for optimal outcomes.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands of this role include:
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Effective communication abilities, with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Manual dexterity to handle medical instruments and supplies.
- Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision capabilities, including close vision and depth perception.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- One to three months of relevant experience or training.
- Medical Assistant Certification is preferred.
