We are currently in search of a committed and empathetic Lead Support Specialist to join our team on a Per Diem basis. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in assisting our residents and ensuring the effective functioning of our facilities.

As a Lead Support Specialist, you will have the chance to positively influence the lives of our residents by providing essential support and assistance. Your responsibilities will include ensuring the safety and welfare of our residents, maintaining a clean and inviting environment, and aiding with daily living activities.

Key Responsibilities

The Lead Support Specialist supervises the Residential Aide team, ensuring that all members fulfill their daily life skills activities, adhere to program objectives, and comply with established rules and regulations. The role encompasses a variety of tasks, including:

  • Performing the duties of a Residential Aide as needed.
  • Collaborating effectively with program staff at all levels to guarantee high-quality service.
  • Conducting hourly inspections of the facility (both interior and exterior) and documenting any incidents for the Program Director.
  • Assisting in the planning and organization of recreational activities, events, and outings.
  • Creating and distributing monthly recreation calendars, flyers, and posters to promote events.
  • Announcing recreational events during weekly house meetings.
  • Developing monthly and weekly coverage schedules for all facilities.
  • Providing crisis intervention and appropriate documentation, sharing relevant information with Case Managers and senior staff.
  • Facilitating a secure and functional environment for residents, staff, visitors, and volunteers.
  • Implementing established safety and security protocols to ensure compliance by all parties.
  • Maintaining daily logs, visitor and resident sign-in records, and other necessary documentation.
  • Preparing units for new residents.
  • Gaining familiarity with building features and potential issues.
  • Observing residents to identify signs of concerning behavior and promptly advising appropriate staff.
  • Conducting and participating in fire drills, logging observations, and following up as necessary.
  • Performing routine inspections of resident units.
  • Monitoring residences regularly.
  • Informing program staff of any issues affecting the health and safety of residents and staff.
  • Attending staff meetings, house meetings, case conferences, and training sessions.
  • Ensuring all media recording devices are operational and functioning correctly.
  • Completing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Monitoring and documenting residents' progress and behavior, reporting concerns to the Program Director.
  • Adhering to all safety protocols to ensure the well-being of residents and staff.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED with relevant work experience.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in an emergency shelter setting.
  • Prior experience in a similar role or related field is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Compassionate and patient, with a genuine desire to assist others.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage challenging situations with tact and empathy.
  • Basic knowledge of medication management and first aid/CPR.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Certifications and Credentials

  • Fire Guard certification F-02 or Fire Safety Coordinator F-80.
  • Valid NY State Driver's License with a clean driving record is a plus.
