The Bowery Mission is a comprehensive, faith-oriented organization committed to assisting individuals facing homelessness. The Community Life division manages all aspects of residential services, which include emergency shelters, short-term accommodations, long-term housing, and transitional support. In this role, the Residential Support Specialist will supervise residents in the Men's Dorm during their assigned shifts.
As a vital member of the Choose Help initiative, the Residential Support Specialist collaborates to cultivate a secure, inviting, and trauma-informed atmosphere that encourages positive relationships with God and among individuals. Key responsibilities encompass:
- Welcoming and orienting guests and residents while demonstrating and teaching independent living skills.
- Encouraging effective communication among residents.
- Managing resident schedules and ensuring adherence to health and safety protocols.
- Conducting regular rounds and executing scheduled fire drills as required.
- Timely submission of necessary reports.
- Collaborating with various departments to enhance program operations.
This is a full-time position with the following shift options:
- Shift #1: Wednesday - Sunday: 3 PM – 11:30 PM (Monday/Tuesday Off)
- Shift #2: Friday - Tuesday: 3 PM – 11:30 PM (Wednesday/Thursday Off)
- Shift #3: Wednesday - Sunday: 11:30 PM – 8 AM (Monday/Tuesday Off)
- Shift #4: Saturday - Wednesday: 3 PM - 11:30 PM (Thursday/Friday Off)
Responsibilities include:
- Welcoming and orienting residents and volunteers.
- Modeling and teaching independent living skills.
- Promoting healthy communication.
- Overseeing schedules and ensuring safety through regular rounds and fire drills.
- Submitting progress and incident reports promptly.
- Collaborating with Community Life and Shared Services teams.
Reports to: Community Life Supervisor
Qualifications:
- Alignment with the organization's Statement of Faith.
- Legal authorization to work in the US; sponsorship opportunities are not available.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a relational approach.
- Ability to adhere to protocols and provide accountability.
- Understanding and application of trauma-informed care principles.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Conflict resolution skills.
- Proficiency in email communication.
- Basic computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in Fire Safety (F-80 or F-02).
- CPR Certification.
- Valid driver's license.
- Associate's Degree in social services or a related field.
- Certification in Non-Crisis Intervention (NCI).
Salary: $19.23 per hour
