Role Overview

The Principal Specialist in Strategic Planning plays a crucial role in fostering new business growth, innovation, and development. This position directly impacts the strategic direction, operational efficiency, competitive stance, profitability, and long-term viability of the organization.

This role is essential for steering strategic initiatives, aligning the North American division with its overarching goals, and driving transformative change. The Principal Specialist ensures the effective execution of critical changes, enhances organizational efficiency, and adapts to shifting market dynamics.

Responsibilities include the timely and budget-conscious development and deployment of new business technology and digital solutions, integration of cross-divisional systems, and the creation of innovative business processes to meet current and future customer demands.



Key Responsibilities

Strategic Business Initiatives

  • Foster innovation and generate new business ideas.
  • Identify and assess new business opportunities; formulate and execute strategies.
  • Establish the vision and strategic objectives for the business unit.
  • Develop a roadmap to realize Honda's future vision.
  • Leverage market research to evaluate competitive landscapes and devise strategies to seize emerging opportunities.
  • Lead teams to ensure successful and high-quality implementation.
  • Present strategic initiatives and recommendations to executives and relevant stakeholders.

Business Solutions Expertise

  • Design comprehensive business system solutions to address challenges.
  • Collaborate with key project roles to create and implement solutions efficiently.
  • Develop long-term strategies to ensure future growth and sustainability.

Financial Analysis and Recommendations

  • Analyze financial aspects of strategic initiatives.
  • Conduct thorough cost/benefit analyses for new business initiatives.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to executive management based on analysis outcomes.
  • Evaluate post-launch results and identify areas for improvement using analytical tools.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Drive innovation and organizational success.
  • Facilitate alignment across the organization for business solutions.
  • Encourage collaboration and knowledge-sharing among Honda divisions.
  • Develop strategies for collaboration to ensure universal business requirements are met.
  • Contribute to the development of business systems that address current and future customer needs.

Change Management

  • Lead transformation of new business models.
  • Establish change management methodologies and plans for effective execution.
  • Prepare the organization for technological and operational changes.


Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Economics, or equivalent experience.
  • MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years in developing and executing business strategies.
  • 3-5 years in business development, strategic planning, and project management.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the automotive industry.
  • 7-10 years in Parts, Service & Technical functions with a deep understanding of operations.
  • 7-10 years in leadership roles.
  • 7-10 years of program management experience, capable of managing multiple strategic projects simultaneously.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Excellent presentation, negotiation, and communication abilities.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and data-driven decision-making skills.
  • Proficient in stakeholder management.
  • Highly organized in managing resources, timelines, and priorities.
  • Expertise in project management tools and change management.
  • Strong risk management capabilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of customer and market trends.
  • Results-oriented mindset.
