Role Overview
The Principal Specialist in Strategic Planning plays a crucial role in fostering new business growth, innovation, and development. This position significantly impacts the strategic direction, operational efficiency, competitive stance, profitability, and long-term viability of the organization.
This role is essential for steering strategic initiatives, aligning the North American division with its overarching goals, and facilitating change. The Principal Specialist ensures the effective execution of critical transformations, enhances organizational efficiency, and adapts to shifting market dynamics.
The Principal Specialist is accountable for the timely and budget-conscious development and deployment of new business technology/digital solutions, integration of cross-divisional systems, and innovative business processes to meet current and future customer demands.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Initiatives for New Business
- Foster innovation and generate ideas for new business opportunities.
- Assess and evaluate potential business opportunities, formulating and executing strategies.
- Articulate the vision and strategic objectives for the business unit, establishing new business directions.
- Develop a roadmap for the business unit to realize Honda's future vision.
- Leverage market research to analyze competitive landscapes and feasibility, crafting strategies to seize emerging opportunities.
- Lead the team to ensure successful and high-quality implementation.
- Communicate strategic initiatives and recommendations to Honda and PS&T Executives, Regional Planning, etc.
Expertise in Business Solutions
- Design comprehensive business system solutions to address operational challenges.
- Collaborate with key project roles (project leads, business analysts, consulting firms, technology partners, etc.) to develop and implement solutions efficiently.
- Establish a long-term solution strategy to ensure PS&T's future growth and sustainability.
Financial Analysis and Cost/Benefit Evaluation
- Analyze various financial aspects related to PS&T strategic initiatives.
- Conduct thorough cost/benefit assessments for each new business initiative.
- Provide informed recommendations to PS&T executive management based on analytical outcomes.
- Review post-launch results and identify areas for improvement, utilizing Business Intelligence (BI) and both qualitative and quantitative analysis tools.
- Ensure compliance with SOX regulations.
Collaboration Across Functions
- Promote innovation and organizational success.
- Facilitate alignment across the enterprise for business solutions.
- Encourage collaboration and knowledge-sharing among Honda Motor, Honda subsidiaries, and AHM divisions such as CX, ADR, SBD & HED, and Auto Sales.
- Develop strategies for collaboration, partnering with various entities to ensure comprehensive business requirements are reflected in strategic direction.
- Contribute to the development of business systems infrastructure that meets current and future customer needs.
Change Management Leadership
- Drive transformation of new business models.
- Establish change management methodologies and plans, ensuring effective execution of new business strategies.
- Prepare PS&T for technological and organizational readiness for business changes.
Qualifications and Skills
- B.S. or B.A. in Business Administration, Economics, or equivalent experience.
- MBA preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years in developing and executing business strategies.
- 3-5 years in business development, strategic planning, and project management.
- Deep understanding of the automotive business landscape.
- 7-10 years in Parts, Service & Technical business functions with comprehensive knowledge of business operations.
- 7-10 years in supervisory or leadership roles.
- 7-10 years of program management experience, capable of managing multiple strategic projects concurrently.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Effective presentation, negotiation, and communication abilities.
- Exceptional problem-solving and data-driven decision-making skills.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, understanding success factors and managing deliverables and expectations.
- Highly organized in managing resources, timelines, and priorities.
- Proficient in project management and software tools, as well as change management.
- Strong risk management capabilities, including identifying and mitigating risks.
- In-depth knowledge of customer and market trends.
- Results-oriented approach.
