Role Overview

The Principal Specialist in Strategic Planning plays a crucial role in fostering new business growth, innovation, and development. This position significantly impacts the strategic direction, operational efficiency, competitive standing, profitability, and long-term viability of the organization.

This role is essential for steering strategic initiatives, aligning the North American division with its overarching goals, and facilitating change. The Principal Specialist ensures the effective execution of critical changes, enhances organizational efficiency, and adapts to shifting market dynamics.

The Principal Specialist is accountable for the timely and budget-conscious development and deployment of new business technologies and digital solutions, cross-divisional system integration, and innovative business processes to meet current and future customer demands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Business Initiatives
    • Foster innovation and generate new business ideas.
    • Identify and assess new business opportunities; develop and implement strategies accordingly.
    • Establish the vision and strategic goals for the business unit.
    • Create a roadmap to achieve Honda's future vision.
    • Utilize market research to evaluate competitive landscapes and develop strategies to leverage emerging opportunities.
    • Lead the team to ensure successful and high-quality implementation.
    • Present strategic initiatives and recommendations to executives and regional planning teams.
  • Business Solution Expertise
    • Develop comprehensive business system solutions to address operational challenges.
    • Collaborate with key project roles to create and implement timely and efficient solutions.
    • Establish a long-term solution strategy to ensure sustainable growth.
  • Financial Analysis
    • Evaluate financial aspects of strategic initiatives.
    • Conduct thorough cost/benefit analyses for new business initiatives.
    • Provide executive management with recommendations based on analytical findings.
    • Assess post-launch results and identify areas for improvement using business intelligence and analytical tools.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Drive innovation and organizational success.
    • Align business solutions across the enterprise.
    • Encourage collaboration and knowledge-sharing among Honda and its subsidiaries.
    • Develop strategies for collaboration across various organizational levels.
    • Contribute to the development of business systems that meet evolving customer needs.
  • Change Management
    • Lead transformation of new business models.
    • Establish change management methodologies and plans to ensure successful execution of strategies.
    • Prepare the organization for technological and operational changes.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Economics, or equivalent experience.
  • MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years in developing and executing business strategies.
  • 3-5 years in business development, strategic planning, and project management.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the automotive industry.
  • 7-10 years in Parts, Service & Technical business functions with a deep understanding of operations.
  • 7-10 years in leadership roles.
  • 7-10 years of program management experience, capable of managing multiple strategic projects simultaneously.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and data-driven decision-making skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Highly organized in managing resources, timelines, and priorities.
  • Proficient in project management tools and change management practices.
  • Strong risk management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of customer and market trends.
  • Results-oriented mindset.
