This role is responsible for overseeing the Spiritual Care Department, ensuring the delivery of exceptional pastoral support to patients, families, and staff, while promoting holistic and interdisciplinary care approaches, and fostering engagement with faith communities.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides leadership, direction, and direct spiritual care to patients, family members, staff, physicians, volunteers, and others in accordance with the standards set by the Association for Professional Chaplains.

Supervises the activities of Chaplains and other team members as designated; evaluates performance, clarifies job expectations, assigns clinical responsibilities, and aids in goal setting; encourages collaboration among individuals and teams.

Designs and implements processes for recruitment, orientation, training, education, and assessment to ensure the ongoing competence of all staff members is evaluated, maintained, and enhanced throughout their tenure.

Establishes and nurtures relationships with local faith organizations.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
A Master's degree in Theology, Divinity, Spirituality, Pastoral Ministry, Biblical Studies, Religious Studies, or Pastoral Care and Counseling is required; a Master of Divinity (M. Div.) is highly preferred. A Doctoral degree in a related field is preferred but not mandatory.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a full-time chaplain is required; experience in healthcare chaplaincy is strongly preferred.

Five (5) years of leadership experience in pastoral roles such as pastor, associate pastor, youth pastor, counselor, or ministry leader is preferred.

Five (5) years of leadership experience is preferred.
CERTIFICATES:

LICENSES AND REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
Must possess and maintain Ecclesiastical Endorsement.
Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) from an accepted certifying organization (APC, NACC, ACPE, SCA, ACCC, NAVAC) is preferred.
Ordained clergy is preferred.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE:

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Ability to cultivate and maintain interpersonal relationships.
Capacity to listen, comprehend, and address the specific spiritual needs of individuals in distress.
Familiarity with congregational and denominational frameworks.
Awareness of community health resources.
Understanding of the religious principles of major faiths.
Ability to engage in theological reflection on institutional matters.
Knowledge of organizational strategies and operational goals.
Expertise in coaching, counseling, and developing others.
Understanding of management principles, processes, and practices.
