Job Overview

The Accounts Receivable Customer Support Specialist is responsible for managing incoming inquiries from various stakeholders, including patients, insurance providers, and healthcare professionals, regarding hospital billing matters. This role involves resolving issues related to patient accounts and assisting in the completion of requests received through phone or written communication, such as providing detailed statements of charges, forwarding medical records, and scanning documentation into the electronic filing system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to incoming calls in a timely manner, ensuring no call exceeds three rings.
  • Provide empathetic solutions, actively listen to callers, and maintain a courteous and respectful demeanor, especially when addressing concerns from upset callers.
  • Process credit card payments efficiently, ensuring accurate documentation and reconciliation of cash transactions.
  • Maintain clear and concise records of all communications in the Accounts Receivable system on a daily basis.
  • Send summaries or itemized statements of charges to patients or insurance companies upon request.
  • Manage assigned accounts effectively while achieving daily productivity targets.
  • Participate in training sessions and seminars as required.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in customer service, patient registration, billing, or a related field is preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical and insurance terminology is advantageous.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to interpret and discuss HCFA billing with insurance or government agencies.
  • Understanding of general insurance requirements.
  • Experience with Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and contractual adjustments.
  • Proficient in using computers and electronic filing systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating professionalism.
  • Capability to meet established productivity expectations.
