Key Responsibilities

The Director of Hospice Services oversees all facets of patient care, manages the activities of professional staff and allied health personnel, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, and monitors financial performance and quality assurance initiatives for the agency. The Director or a designated alternate will be accessible on-site during operational hours and, if necessary, beyond.

  • Accountable for adherence to all regulations, laws, policies, and procedures relevant to hospice and Medicare/Medicaid issues on a daily basis.
  • Available on-site during operational hours or reachable by phone when off-site, with availability after hours as required.
  • Directs the daily operations of the agency and serves as the Care Management Process facilitator. The Director or a designated RN, such as a Patient Care Manager, will receive daily updates on patient status from staff. This includes reviewing patient care documentation, referral details, recertification processes, discharge information, and event reporting on a daily basis.
  • Evaluates monthly financial outcomes in relation to all operational aspects to ensure that quality patient care is delivered in a cost-effective manner.
  • Engages in QAPI planning and processes, reporting, and improvement action plans as necessary. This encompasses chart audits, patient satisfaction assessments, financial evaluations, contract reviews, and addressing patient/family concerns, along with appropriate follow-up.

Qualifications and Experience

Licensure Requirements

  • Must hold a valid license as a physician, registered nurse, or social worker; or possess a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three (3) years of documented success in the relevant field and at least one (1) year of full-time experience in a hospice, home health, or similar healthcare delivery setting.
  • Preferred: Three (3) years of leadership experience in healthcare.
  • Current CPR certification is required for Directors who may provide patient services in the field.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License, vehicle insurance, and access to reliable transportation or public transit.

Additional State Requirements

  • For Texas: Must have at least one year of management or supervisory experience in a health-related environment and evidence of eight clock hours of educational training in agency administration within the twelve months preceding the appointment to this position, as per Texas Administrative Code.
