Job Summary:
The Mate Officer is a critical member of the G&H Towing team, responsible for ensuring the safe operation and navigation of our vessels. As the second-in-command, the Mate Officer will work closely with the Master to maintain the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Master in maintaining the vessel's deck maintenance and administrative program.
- Inspect and maintain watertight and weathertight doors, hatches, scuttles, vents, and other watertight closures to maintain watertight integrity.
- Inspect and splicing of all the vessel's lines, wire rope, pendants, and associated deck tackle.
- Assist in maintaining the vessel's fendering system and in fuel transfer operations.
- Conduct general housekeeping of the wheelhouse, including cleaning of the interior and exterior windows and port lights to ensure visibility for lookouts.
- Comply with all applicable regulations and company policies, including the Towing Safety Management System (TSMS).
- Report unsafe conditions to the Master and take early and positive action to prevent accidents.
Requirements:
- Hold a U. S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) endorsed as Mate of Towing Vessels or Mate of vessels greater than 200 gross registered tons.
- Hold a completed Towing Officers Assessment Record (TOAR) endorsed for service on inland waters or near coastal waters, or oceans with a valid endorsement as Radar Observer (unlimited).
- Hold a valid TWIC issued by the Transportation Security Administration.
Working Conditions:
The Mate Officer will work on board our vessels, which may be located in various ports and waterways. The position requires a high level of physical fitness, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
