Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Office of Maintenance Environmental, Branch Chief, the incumbent is responsible for providing compliance documents in accordance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, Public Resource Code 5024, and other federal and state laws and regulations applicable to cultural resources, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), for the most complex aspects of cultural resource compliance for transportation projects. The incumbent will serve as the subject matter expert in the field of archaeology within the branch, supporting other staff, including Environmental Scientists, Environmental Planners, and Associate Environmental Planners.

Responsibilities
  • Provide compliance documents for complex cultural resource projects
  • Develop and implement cultural resource management plans
  • Conduct site visits and assessments to identify cultural resource impacts
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including Native American tribes and other interested parties
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cultural resource management, including experience with NEPA and CEQA. A valid CA Driver's License is required. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs.
