Strategic Sourcing Category Manager

The Category Manager - Packaging role is a key position within ITW's corporate sourcing function. This individual will be responsible for developing and executing commercially appropriate, sustainable, and diverse packaging solutions. The successful candidate will work with functional stakeholders across ITW's North American business units to identify and leverage spend requirements to develop and execute high-performing category strategies.
Key Responsibilities:- Identify innovative packaging solutions across the Enterprise, focusing on total cost of ownership modeling, sustainability, risk, and cost improvements.
- Develop, lead, and execute category plan and sourcing strategy for Packaging and Packaging related goods and services.
- Utilize the 7-Step Sourcing process to address all relevant category management activities and life-cycle requirements from business case initiation to category strategy execution.
- Assemble, coordinate, and lead cross-functional and functional stakeholder councils to properly vet, execute, and secure continued performance of category management and sourcing strategies.
- Analyze market dynamics to understand upstream cost drivers and their effect on cost and market capacity, and develop mitigation strategies where necessary.
- Establish category KPI targets (cost, control, process efficiency) and supplier scorecard programs to quantify the performance and value return of category management strategies.
- Establish benchmark measures at the start of the project and track success, including cycle times, lead times, savings, improved delivery, and simplified processes.
- Ability to lead and execute Value-Added/Value-Engineered (VA/VE) programs specific to design-to-cost activities within the packaging segment across several technical competencies.
- Conduct and lead supplier business reviews in coordination with ITW internal customers against the defined KPIs and targeted business outcomes.
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain or Business field required.
- Minimum of 3 years of Sourcing or Supply Chain experience with a leading or influential capacity working in corrugated, rigid plastic, metal, and glass containers, wood pallets, and other products for protection.
- Ability to travel an estimated 20-30% (max). When not traveling, be in the office full-time at the Glenview, IL corporate campus.
- Experience in leading cross-functional and/or global teams within a matrixed environment.
- Knowledge of packaging cost driver dynamics and influencing market and technology trends.
- Ability to design effective, fact-based business case justifications with the capacity to drive and steer group decisions.
- Experience and a track record of success in delivering cradle-to-grave category management strategies for packaging programs: cost reduction targets, market benchmarking & cost modeling analytics to support budget forecasting, cost mitigation, and process improvement strategies.
- Ability to establish organizational objectives and analyze relevant metrics.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve complex process/systems problems.
- Demonstrated project management skills, project planning, scheduling, and tracking.
- Experienced in creation, negotiation, and administration of contracts.
- Proven ability to communicate and work effectively across many functional groups.
- Strong negotiation skills, excellent written, and interpersonal communication skills.
