Position Summary:
The Strategic Sourcing Category Manager for Packaging is a pivotal role within ITW's corporate sourcing team. This position is tasked with the formulation and implementation of effective, sustainable, and diverse packaging strategies for a substantial portfolio valued at $175M. As an individual contributor, the manager will collaborate with various functional stakeholders across ITW's North American divisions to identify and optimize spending requirements, thereby developing and executing high-impact category strategies that ensure optimal cost, quality, service delivery, and innovative value engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and implement innovative packaging solutions across the organization, focusing on total cost of ownership, sustainability, and cost efficiency.
  • Lead the development and execution of category plans and sourcing strategies for packaging and related goods and services.
  • Employ the 7-Step Sourcing process to manage all relevant category activities from initiation to execution and necessary adjustments.
  • Facilitate and lead cross-functional stakeholder councils to effectively vet and secure the performance of category management strategies.
  • Analyze market trends to understand cost drivers and their implications on market capacity, developing strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Establish category performance metrics (KPIs) and supplier scorecard programs to evaluate the effectiveness and value of category management strategies.
  • Set benchmark measures at project inception and monitor success, including cycle times, lead times, savings, and process improvements.
  • Lead and execute value engineering programs focused on cost-effective design within the packaging sector.
  • Conduct supplier business reviews in collaboration with internal stakeholders, measuring performance against established KPIs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management or a related business field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in sourcing or supply chain management, particularly in packaging materials.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 20-30% of the time, with a requirement to work full-time at the corporate headquarters when not traveling.
  • Experience in leading cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of packaging cost drivers and market trends.
  • Proven ability to create compelling business cases and drive group decision-making.
  • Demonstrated success in managing comprehensive category strategies for packaging, including cost reduction and process improvement initiatives.
  • Strong analytical skills to establish organizational objectives and evaluate relevant metrics.
  • Proficient in resolving complex process and systems challenges.
  • Effective project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and tracking.
  • Experience in contract negotiation and administration.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across various functional areas.
  • Strong negotiation capabilities and excellent interpersonal skills.
