Position Summary:
The Packaging Category Manager is a pivotal role within ITW's corporate sourcing team, responsible for the formulation and implementation of commercially viable, sustainable, and diverse packaging strategies, managing a budget of $175M. This individual contributor position collaborates with various functional stakeholders across ITW's North American business units to identify and optimize spending requirements, thereby developing and executing high-impact category strategies that achieve optimal cost, quality, service delivery, and innovative value-added solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and implement innovative packaging solutions throughout the organization, focusing on total cost of ownership, sustainability, risk management, and cost efficiency.
  • Develop, lead, and execute comprehensive category plans and sourcing strategies for packaging and related goods and services.
  • Utilize a structured sourcing process to manage all relevant category management activities, from initial business case development to strategy execution and necessary adjustments.
  • Coordinate and lead cross-functional stakeholder councils to ensure effective execution and ongoing performance of category management and sourcing strategies.
  • Analyze market trends to understand cost drivers and their impact on pricing and market capacity, developing mitigation strategies as needed.
  • Establish category performance metrics (cost, control, process efficiency) and supplier evaluation programs to measure the effectiveness and value of category management strategies.
  • Set benchmark measures at the project's outset and monitor success, including cycle times, lead times, savings, improved delivery, and streamlined processes.
  • Lead and execute value engineering programs focused on design-to-cost initiatives within the packaging sector across various technical areas.
  • Conduct supplier performance reviews in collaboration with internal stakeholders, based on established KPIs and targeted business outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management or a related business field is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in sourcing or supply chain management, preferably in a leadership role within packaging materials such as corrugated, rigid plastic, metal, and glass containers.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 20-30% of the time, with a requirement to work full-time at the corporate campus when not traveling.
  • Experience leading cross-functional or global teams in a matrixed environment.
  • Strong understanding of packaging cost drivers and market dynamics.
  • Ability to create effective, data-driven business case justifications to guide group decision-making.
  • Proven track record in delivering comprehensive category management strategies for packaging, including cost reduction, market benchmarking, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Capability to set organizational goals and analyze relevant performance metrics.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex operational challenges.
  • Strong project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and tracking.
  • Experience in contract negotiation and administration.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across various functional areas.
  • Strong negotiation skills and proficiency in written and verbal communication.
