Position Summary

This role encompasses a vital accounting function that involves reporting across a wide range of financial and business matters. The Accounting Specialist will play a crucial role in the organization's financial reporting, supporting cost management, and overseeing the month-end closing activities. This position requires a strong foundation in technical accounting, reporting, and internal controls, with the expectation to drive processes forward with minimal oversight.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and oversee general ledger accounts.
  • Conduct account reconciliations, accruals, and financial closing in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure that financial reporting deadlines are met with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Compile financial data to create financial statements and detailed analyses.
  • Generate various reports regarding trends, commitments, and key performance indicators.
  • Assist in evaluating systems and procedures for potential improvements.
  • Support the development and maintenance of budgets, cost analyses, and forecasting.
  • Ensure accurate classification and reporting of fixed assets (additions, disposals, depreciation).
  • Assist with Accounts Payable and Receivable tasks, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Manage certain vendor relationships.
  • Provide assistance to walk-in guests.
  • Support other office functions and participate in cross-training for absences.
  • Help identify information needs and gather data for organizational reports.
  • Engage in software upgrades.
  • Participate in physical inventory counts and reconciliation.
  • Assist with compliance regarding sales and use tax.
  • Contribute to accounting and departmental projects as needed.
  • Support preparations for annual reviews and audits.

The employee will work in a standard office environment that is climate-controlled.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. The employee is regularly required to communicate verbally and audibly. The role requires the ability to sit for extended periods, lift up to 25 pounds infrequently, bend, twist, stand, and work on a computer daily.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Occasional work on Fridays or weekends may be necessary based on job requirements.

Education, Skills, and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required, along with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in Accounting and/or Auditing.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail with the ability to identify problems and propose solutions.
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative, self-motivation, and confidence.
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal), teamwork, and diplomacy.
  • Positive attitude and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with employees at all levels.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines.
  • Professional maturity and discretion in handling sensitive information.
  • Proficiency in accounting software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
