Position: Therapeutic Assistant at Richland District One

In times of emotional distress, you are the key figure in managing behavioral challenges and fostering both academic and social development within a school environment. Collaborating closely with educators and school leaders, your role is vital in maintaining classroom order and providing individualized support to students as necessary. Reporting directly to the principal and the Director of Special Education, you are instrumental in cultivating a nurturing educational atmosphere for every student.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist students with their academic tasks, ensuring they remain engaged and focused.
  • Address the needs of emotionally distressed students who may disrupt the learning environment or pose risks, providing essential support and documenting their behavior.
  • Provide advice on behavior management, work in conjunction with psychologists and educators on student cases, and facilitate both individual and group counseling sessions.
  • Plan and conduct recreational, educational, and therapeutic activities that actively involve students.
  • Help modify lesson plans to cater to individual student requirements, collaborate with colleagues and families to enhance student outcomes, and stay informed about developments in the field.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, utilize office equipment, and communicate effectively with school personnel, students, and parents.
  • Adhere to educational regulations, policies, and directives to promote a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Oversee students during lunch breaks or detentions, manage administrative responsibilities as needed, and undertake additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
A Bachelor's degree in education, special education, child development, or a related discipline, along with one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and training is essential.

Physical and Communication Skills:
Ability to operate various equipment, exert physical effort when necessary, and perform tasks that involve standing, walking, and light manual labor.
