Position: Therapeutic Assistant at Richland District One

In the event of emotional challenges faced by students, your role is to assist in managing behavioral issues while fostering their academic and social development within an educational environment. You will collaborate closely with educators and administrative staff to mitigate classroom disruptions and provide individual counseling to students as necessary. Reporting directly to the principal and the Director of Special Education, your contributions are vital in cultivating a supportive learning atmosphere for every student.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist students with their academic responsibilities, ensuring they remain engaged and focused.
  • Address the needs of emotionally distressed students who may disrupt the learning environment or pose risks, providing essential support and documenting their behavior.
  • Provide insights on behavior management, work alongside psychologists and educators on student cases, and facilitate one-on-one or group counseling sessions.
  • Plan and conduct recreational, educational, and therapeutic activities to actively involve students.
  • Help tailor lessons to meet individual student requirements, collaborate with colleagues and parents to enhance student outcomes, and stay informed about developments in the field.
  • Maintain various records and reports, utilize office equipment, and communicate effectively with school personnel, students, and parents.
  • Adhere to educational regulations, policies, and directives to ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Supervise students during detentions or lunch periods, manage administrative tasks as needed, and undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
A Bachelor's degree in education, special education, child development, or a related discipline, along with one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and training is required.
