Overview:

The Nursing Supervisor at the Multnomah County Detention Center is accountable for overseeing daily operations and care coordination for adults in custody (AIC). This role demands independent work, adherence to clinical and program protocols, and the supervision, direction, coordination, evaluation, and participation in Corrections Health services. The position requires critical thinking, nursing proficiency, collaborative communication, management capabilities, initiative, and readiness to accept on-call duties.

Key Responsibilities:

Organize, prioritize, assign, supervise, and assess the work of nursing and healthcare personnel involved in direct care of AICs. Conduct direct observations of practice, skills, AIC interactions, and review staff documentation. Provide coaching, counseling, and disciplinary actions for direct reports regarding performance. Collaborate with nursing and administrative leadership to ensure continuity of care and adherence to licensure and practice regulations. Guarantee the implementation of evidence-based interventions in the care of AICs. Ensure compliance with health department guidelines, policies, procedures, and standards, including national, state, and regional review processes. Review applications, conduct interviews, and hire personnel in accordance with Human Resources regulations. Deliver appropriate training and mentorship for new staff, on-call personnel, and students. Address inquiries and provide information to the public. Attend departmental and interagency meetings related to assigned programs and services; in collaboration with the Nursing Manager, participate in budget preparation and management. Collaborate with leadership on suggested changes, updates, improvements, and policy and procedure development. Conduct individual discussions with each direct report to explore skills or service areas of interest and available educational opportunities. In conjunction with the Nursing Manager, prepare agendas and lead staff meetings; draft memos, letters, reports, notices, forms, and procedural guidelines.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills:

License to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of Oregon. One (1) to four (4) years of experience; BLS/CPR certification required Must be able to pass a Multnomah County Sheriff's Office Background Check
