Job Description: Operations Supervisor

Overview

As a frontline supervisor this position provides operational guidance and assistance to Dispatcher responding to Operational needs for Customer concerns, accidents, and incidents. Reviews and provides reports from Dispatchers. Directly supervisor radio dispatch functions. Handles escalated radio or phone calls from Operators and Customers in both the Dispatch and Reservations areas as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitors radio channels and responds to Operational need for day of service.
  • Monitors Dispatch daily performance directing Operational changes to improve efficiencies and minimize issues on day of service.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship and communication with internal staff, Customers, Operators and Client agency personnel.
  • Ability to delegate and prioritize the assignments of work to Dispatchers.
  • Must be able to independently supervise Call Center Dispatch staff.
  • Assist Management inDispatcher scheduling to ensure department and functions are staffed in accordance with operational needs.May at times backup daily functions for Dispatch, Reservations, and Scheduling in cases of staff absences or operational needs.
  • Reviews Dispatch reports to ensure accuracy and completion and that all departments receive necessary reports including Safety, Operations and Maintenance.
  • Requires the ability to assume the daily functions of Dispatch or Reservations should operational need arise. Assist with training in-coming Dispatchers and re-training requirements of existing team members as needed.
  • Escalate performance concerns of Dispatch staff to management.
  • Foster a team environment.

Experience and preferred skills:

  • 1 yr. of Supervisory experience (Transportation experience preferred)
  • 1 yr. experience working in Transit Radio Dispatch communications center.
  • Experience leading a team to achieve business objectives.
  • Working knowledge of Trapeze software.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, dead-line oriented team environment.
  • Ability to obtain knowledge of Greater Portland Metro area.
  • Proficient in use of common office computer system including MS Office.
  • Demonstrate ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of Employees engaged in various activities.
  • Ability to work weekends and flexible shifts as needed.
  • Demonstrate ability to identify and understand problems and determine the appropriate measures it takes to solve problems.
  • Considerable interpersonal skills, including ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with others.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage customer relations, providing strong customer service skills for managing immediate needs of Operators and Customers.

Work Schedule:

  • The specific schedule currently is Friday through Monday from 6:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. This schedule is subject to change based on business need and may be a 4- or 5-day role. Position is full-time, overseeing a 24/7 radio control/dispatch operation. Requires flexibility in working days and hours including working non-traditional business hours such as early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Drug testing and background check.
  • DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Constantly sitting
  • Occasionally standing, walking, squat/kneel, bend, reaching above shoulder
  • Frequent reaching outward
  • Noise level – Continuous noise, moderate volume.
  • Work environment that requires multiple people talking in close proximity using two-way radio/communication systems, telephone, video and other commuter aided communication systems.
  • Lifting to 10lbs. (frequently)
  • Lifting over 11lbs - 20lbs (occasionally)
  • This position is subject to random drug and alcohol testing as required by DOT regulations.
