Job Overview

Position Summary:

The SMT Quality Control Lead will oversee the QC inspection team, ensuring adherence to throughput and quality benchmarks for the designated area. This role involves delegating tasks to QC inspectors to meet production demands while upholding exceptional quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Report directly to the Quality Director.
  • Conduct QC inspections on SMT components and verify part changes and assembly deviations.
  • Review First Article reports at the start, middle, and end of each shift, collaborating with Engineering and Production to address daily quality challenges.
  • Initiate production line stoppages for significant quality concerns, determined by a pattern of repeat defects or at the discretion of the QC Lead, and promptly notify Production and Engineering.
  • Support the First Article process to ensure high-quality standards for all builds.
  • Assist QC inspectors in maintaining the integrity of PCBA inspections and adherence to established procedures and work instructions.
  • Capably perform First Article PCBA level inspections.
  • Utilize the data collection system to scan inspected boards, confirming familiarity with customer documentation, applicable MPI pages, deviations, ECOs, and related change documentation.
  • Raise and assess Technical Inquiries for any observed discrepancies on the production line, ensuring no job commences without authorization from Engineering or Supervisory personnel.
  • Assist in addressing process bottlenecks as directed by Supervisors, Engineers, or Managers.
  • Escalate unresolved issues to Supervisors, Engineers, or Managers, and notify the Quality Director if necessary.
  • Participate in training and implement all production-related procedures, including ESD, Housekeeping, First Article, Maintenance, Safety, Test and Inspection Procedures, MSD Handling, IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, etc.
  • Provide feedback on process and quality enhancements to Supervisors, Engineers, and Management.
  • Review the Data Collection system with the Line Lead and QA Director concerning SMT Defect Yield.
  • Link defects to workmanship standards as specified by IPC (class 2 and 3) and custom requirements.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Complete any other tasks assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in an electronics inspection environment within a Contract Manufacturer or similar setting.
  • 5 years of experience conducting PCB First Article inspections in a Contract Manufacturer or similar environment.
  • Prior experience with IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 is essential.
  • Strong understanding of Contract Manufacturer technology, particularly circuit board assembly.
  • Ability to train other quality department personnel in inspection techniques, First Article, and related documentation.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and communicating effectively in English.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry-standard workmanship requirements (IPC-A-600 / IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, etc.).
  • Capability to visually verify intricate detail work.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow instructions for inspecting printed circuit assemblies (PCAs).
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and bills of material.
  • Basic proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook (or equivalent preferred).
  • Able to work under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Must be capable of sitting for extended periods while conducting inspections through a microscope or other magnification device.
