Monday to Friday, 8 am - 5 pm
Type: 6-month contract with potential for permanent placement
Responsibilities:
The role encompasses various duties, including but not limited to: Receiving, examining, transferring, identifying, and appropriately housing incoming animal shipments in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Conducting daily health surveillance checks on animals and reporting any abnormal conditions of the animals or their environment to supervisory personnel.
Performing routine animal husbandry tasks.Administering prescribed treatments to animals as directed by the veterinarian.
Maintaining a daily census of animals in assigned areas.
Carrying out humane euthanasia of animals as designated, following the relevant animal care protocols and facility SOPs.
Understanding and adhering to SOPs, safety protocols, and quality assurance guidelines for animal care.
Preparing and submitting necessary records, charts, logs, cage cards, and inventories as mandated by SOPs.
Ensuring cleanliness and organization in work and personal areas.
Sanitizing and decontaminating all facility areas in accordance with established cleaning schedules.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree preferred but not mandatory; AALAS ALAT certification is preferred but not required if the candidate possesses an advanced degree in Animal Science or a related discipline.Prior experience with rodent handling is essential (including restraint, identification methods, injections – all routes, specifically intravenous injections, genotype sampling, blood collection – all routes, specifically retro-orbital, gavage and oral dosing, medication/anesthetics/analgesics administration and dosage calculations, euthanasia, irradiation, sentinel sample collection, organectomy, surgical experience with osmotic pump placement, surgical room preparation, sterilization of surgical packs, and insertion/removal of sutures and wound clips; breeding and colony maintenance; assessment and treatment of ill animals).
Must obtain ALAT certification within one year of experience and within 18 months of hire.
Previous experience in rodent caretaking is preferred unless the candidate holds AALAS certification at the ALAT/LAT level or has an advanced degree in Animal Science or a related field.
