Job Overview

Jensen Hughes offers a hybrid opportunity for a Senior Fire Protection Engineer, seeking individuals with expertise in life safety code consulting, sprinkler systems, fire detection and alarm systems, and passive fire protection. The ideal candidate will possess a robust understanding of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes and standards, along with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC). Experience in performance-based fire engineering design is advantageous. The successful applicant will collaborate with a diverse team of Fire Protection Engineers, providing full-time engineering and technical support in a high-profile government setting, while potentially enjoying a hybrid work schedule. This role presents a unique chance to deepen fire protection knowledge across various fire suppression, alarm, and life safety systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive design reviews and commissioning services for fire protection, fire alarm, and life safety systems, including design evaluations, verification of as-built drawings, construction inspections, and development of functional performance tests.
  • Assess design compliance with the owner's intent, ensuring adherence to applicable building, fire, and life safety codes, and verify that fire protection systems meet specified requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance in drafting statements of work for projects related to the built environment, representing building owners and stakeholders.
  • Utilize fundamental fire and life safety engineering principles to devise performance-based solutions for complex design challenges.
  • Evaluate existing facilities for compliance with building codes and recommend enhancements, including site surveys and analysis of fire detection and alarm systems.
  • Perform calculations related to egress sizing, building height and area limits, sprinkler system water supply capacity, and smoke control systems.
  • Support building management in the inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire alarm and protection systems.
  • Recommend updates to existing fire protection and life safety codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Analyze the impact of new code adoptions and changes on construction project requirements and building operations.
  • Meet client expectations by completing tasks efficiently and maintaining effective communication with project teams and stakeholders.
  • Prepare technical reports and correspondence to address specific engineering concepts as required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in life safety, fire protection, and fire alarm systems consulting, design review, inspections, and commissioning.
  • Possession of a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Strong report writing and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to articulate clear and technically sound fire protection strategies and demonstrate effective negotiation skills.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively, embracing professional challenges and contributing to the long-term growth of Jensen Hughes.
