General Role Overview:

MPA is in search of a dedicated and skilled Fire Protection Systems Technician to join the Facility Maintenance Division, bringing expertise in Fire Protection & Life Safety Systems.

The primary role involves troubleshooting, inspecting, repairing, and replacing Life Safety equipment, including sprinkler systems, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, fire alarms, and backflow devices across all MPA terminals.


Key Responsibilities:


The essential duties for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs related to fire protection and life safety systems.
  • Responding to emergency calls 24/7, addressing issues such as fire sprinkler malfunctions and alarm activations, and taking necessary corrective actions.
  • Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing faults in various fire protection and life safety systems.
  • Servicing, inspecting, testing, and maintaining components of fire suppression systems.
  • Performing minor repairs on sprinkler systems to ensure continuous operation.
  • Preparing preliminary cost estimates for new installations, modifications, or services.
  • Assessing the feasibility of repairs or replacements to provide recommendations to management.

The current vacancy is located at the Dundalk Marine Terminal, reporting directly to a Skilled Trade Supervisor in the Facility Maintenance Division.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
High school graduation or equivalent certification.

Experience:
Three (3) years of skilled trade experience in plumbing.

Selective Qualification: One (1) year of the required experience must include skilled trade work related to fire protection and life safety systems, such as sprinkler systems, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, fire alarms, and backflow devices.

Notes:

  • Additional skilled trade experience may substitute for required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • A vocational technical school certificate in skilled trades may substitute for one year of required experience.
  • Military service experience in utilities repair or construction may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Employees must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license in Maryland and may be required to obtain a Class A or Class B CDL during the probationary period.

Employees must also obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) for access to MPA facilities.

Employees should be prepared for duty at any hour, day or night, as required for continuous facility operation and must maintain reliable communication for emergency call-backs.
